Hello, my name is...

Leizl Basilio. My full name is Leizl Cantianella Torres Esperanza Badilla Basilio. Each name has a specific origin and importance. For example I am named Leizl after Leisl Von Trapp the oldest daughter of the Von Trapp family in the movie The Sound of Music (my parents favorite movie). Cantianella is my confirmation name, it is included in my whole name because it is the one name that I got to choose myself, unlike the others which were chosen for me or I was born into. Torres is my mother's maiden name, Esperanza is my middle name, Badilla is my father's mother's maiden name, and Basilio is obviously my last name.

I came to learn this after going to the Philippines and learning more about my culture. My family is from a municipality called Baao in the province of Camarines Sur, Philippines. There I learned it is customary for your whole name of be comprised of your: first name, confirmation name, mother's maiden name, middle name, father's mother's maiden name, last name, and if you get married and are female you hypenate your last name with your husbands last name. 

When I researched my name online I hardly found information on my name both first and last, except for that my last name derives from Italy, Spain, or Portugal. Nevertheless, not knowing a lot about the origin about my name doesn't bother me because I know enough about how my name, its origin,  and my family inform me of who I am today.
